U.S. Sassuolo Calcio do not have any history to speak of when it comes to winning title honours in the Coppa Italia competition, however that has not stopped fans from flocking to the ground to support their side when they participate in the domestic cup tournament. As such, the 23,717 capacity multi-purpose Mapei Stadium-Città del Tricolore becomes an exceptional venue to witness some great football.

The club nickname that they go by is I Neroverdi, which translates to The Black and Greens. Despite the stature of the club, they have had a number of top players turn out in their colours over the years in the Coppa Italia, with men such as Vlad Chiricheș, Filip Đuričić, Jérémie Boga, Jeremy Toljan and Pedro Obiang all making several appearances in the past.

As mentioned, U.S. Sassuolo Calcio have not had great success when it comes to the tournament, as they have not been able to reach a final since being formed as a football club. Over the years, though, the club have continued to build some momentum when it comes down to making appearances in the latter rounds of the tournament, which has further intensified the excitement the Coppa Italia brings to fans that attend matches.

I Neroverdi have started to become a regular contender in the latter stages of the tournament now, although they still find it difficult to advance when they come up against one of the big guns of Italian football, with shocks rarely happening.

Of course, there have been some memorable moments for U.S. Sassuolo Calcio in the competition, though. The Serie A outfit managed to reach the Round of 16 in the 2017/18 edition of the Coppa Italia, although they fell against Atalanta BC.

In the following year’s tournament, the club reached the same stage once again, although they fell to SSC Napoli on this occasion, whilst the 2019/20 edition provided U.S. Sassuolo Calcio with a shock.

I Neroverdi were beaten by Perugia in the fourth round of the tournament 1-2 in front of an expectant crowd at the Mapei Stadium-Città del Tricolore. The club from Udin will want to avoid any similar shocks like that when they take part in the upcoming competitions.
