About SPAL Coppa Italia
SPAL History in the Coppa Italia
Società Polisportiva Ars et Labor, otherwise known as SPAL, have some history in the Coppa Italia, although it came some time ago. Nonetheless, fans still flock to the 16,134 capacity Stadio Paolo Mazza when they take part in the competition, though, as previous campaigns in the Serie A have seen them be able to go head-to-head with some of Italy’s biggest sides.
The club has numerous nicknames that they go by, with Gli Spallini, I Biancazzurri and Gli Estensi all having been commonly used over the years. The modest Italian outfit have been able to call on a number of top players over the years in the cup competition, with the likes of Alex Meret, Fabio Capello, Matteo Ferrari, Andrea Petagna and Federico Di Francesco all making several appearances over the years.
SPAL's Top Achievements In the Coppa Italia
SPAL have not had great success when it comes to the tournament, as they have only been able to reach one final since being formed as a football club. Over the years, the club have found it incredibly difficult to build any momentum in the tournament as they appear to go out in the early parts of the competition more often than not.
I Biancazzurri have, though, been named as runners up in the Coppa Italia before, having finished second to SSC Napoli in the 1961/62 season, however they were on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico.
