Cagliari Calcio do not have any historic moments in regards of silverware to speak of when it comes to winning title honours in the Coppa Italia competition, however that has not stopped fans from heading to the ground to support their side when they participate in the domestic cup tournament. As such, the 16,233 capacity Sardegna Arena becomes an exceptional venue to witness some great football.
The club nickname that they go by is Gli Isolani, which translates to The Islanders. Despite the stature of the club, they have had a number of top players turn out in their colours over the years in the Coppa Italia, with men such as Radja Nainggolan, Giovanni Simeone, Ragnar Klavan, Nicolò Barella, Gianfranco Zola and David Suazo all making several appearances in the past.

As mentioned, Cagliari Calcio have not had great success when it comes to the tournament, although they have managed to reach one final in previous editions that they have participated. The club managed to make an appearance in the 1968–69 edition of the competition, although AS Roma managed to come out on top in the Group Phase that was used for that particular year’s tournament.
Gil Isolani have since had a number of mixed fortunes when participating in the Coppa Italia over the years, with the club being unable to progress from the Round of 16 on the vast majority of times, whilst there have been a number of shocks witnessed when Cagliari Calcio are involved in action on the pitch.
