Genoa CFC History in the Coppa Italia
Genoa Cricket and Football Club S.p.A., who are more commonly known as Genoa, have some historic moments in regards to silverware when speaking about previous participations of the Coppa Italia competition. Therefore it is not a surprise that fans continue to support their side in large numbers when they participate in the domestic cup tournament. As a result, the 36,599 capacity Stadio Luigi Ferraris becomes an incredible venue to witness some of the best domestic football available outside of the Serie A competition.
The club have various nicknames that they go by, with Il Grifone, I Rossoblù and Il Vecchio Balordo having all been used over the years. The football club may not be as big as it once was in regards to stature, however they have had a number of top players turn out in their colours over the years in the Coppa Italia. Players such as Cristián Zapata, Mattia Destro, Goran Pandev, Iago Falque and Antonio Sanabria have all made several appearances for them in the past.

As mentioned, Genoa C.F.C. have previously had some great success when it comes to the tournament, as they have managed to reach two finals in previous editions that they have participated. The club managed to make an appearance in the 1936–37 edition of the competition, in which they managed to beat AS Roma. However, their appearance in the 1939–40 (their most recent), would end up as them heading home as runners up after losing out to AFC Fiorentina.
Il Vecchio Balordo have since had a number of mixed outings when participating in the Coppa Italia over the years, with the club being unable to progress from the Round of 16 on the vast majority of times, whilst there have been a number of shocks to take place when Genoa C.F.C. are involved in action on the pitch.
