Nottingham Forest and Arsenal have met over 100 times over the years, albeit the games being predominantly cup clashes in the recent history of this fixture, and there are also a number of players that connect both clubs.

In recent years the likes of Carl Jenkinson, Henri Lansbury, and forward Kevin Campbell have played for both teams. Additionally, groundbreaking defender Viv Anderson started his glittering career at Forest, playing over 300 times for the club and playing a key role in back-to-back European Cup triumphs, before moving to Arsenal in 1984, where he made 150 appearances before he moved to Manchester United in 1987.

Anderson was the first black player to play for the senior England national team when he won his first cap in 1978.

Clashes between Nottingham Forest and Arsenal have been few and far between in recent years, and the May 2023 meeting at the City Ground was the first time the Gunners had taken on their hosts in a league match since January 1999.

The fixture in 2022/23 saw Steve Cooper’s side all but end Mikel Arteta’s hopes of an unlikely Premier League crown, with bustling forward Taiwo Awoniyi scoring the only goal of the game.
