Slipknot History

Slipknot were formed in 1995 after a number of previous bands had merged and various members had fallen away; the nucleus of the group came together ahead of their demo album, Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat, which saw the original lineup consisted of Anders Colsefni, Josh Brainard, Donnie Steele, Paul Gray, Joey Jordison and Shawn 'Clown' Crahan.

The band's self-titled first album, was released in 1999, by which time Corey Taylor was in place as lead singer, Mick Thomson, Craig Jones, Jim Root, Chris Fehn and Sid Wilson had joined Paul Gray and Joey Jordison.

The first release, on Roadrunner Records, was a success, selling over two million copies in the United States alone and helped to pave the way for what was to come.

Their second album, Iowa, went to number one in the UK and number three in the US and showed great progression. Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) followed to much acclaim, and in 2008, the group got their first-ever US Billboard chart-topping album with the release of All Hope is Gone.

Sadly, Paul Gray passed away in 2010. In 2014, the group released 5: The Gray Chapter in his honour, and that, too, went to number one in the United States, as did their next album, We Are Not Your Kind.

In 2021 tragedy struck again with drummer Joey Jordison died, but the band bravely soldiered on. In 2022 they released their seventh studio album, The End, So Far, which was a massive success around the world, breaking into the top ten in just about every corner of the globe.

As well as selling tens of millions of records worldwide, Slipknot have been heavily praised by their peers and critics, earning them countless accolades over the course of their impressive history.

Among their major awards is their Grammy Award win for Best Metal Performance in 2006 for Before I Forget; they have also been nominated more than ten times for other awards at the prestigious event over the years.

They have also won several Kerrang! Awards, including three in 2000 for Best Single, Best International Live Act, and Best Band in the World. They also won at the 2001, 2008, and 2009 ceremonies.

The group have been at the height of their powers for the best part of thirty years and their massive back catalogue, coupled with great material from any new album they produce, means that their shows are a true celebration of what Slipknot have achieved thus far.
