Everton vs Tottenham History

Plenty of players have lined up for both these English behemoths, the most notable examples being England international legend Gary Lineker (who scored 40 goals in his one season at Goodison Park), South African international Steven Pienaar, winger Simon Davies, keeper Bobby Mimms, midfielder Vinny Samways, defender Pat Van den Hauwe and forward Louis Saha.

Everton vs Tottenham Head to Head

Everton and Tottenham have met over 170 times, and their first Premier League meeting came back in the inaugural season of the rebranded top tier, and on that occasion, in February 1993, the away side were too strong.

Gary Mabbutt scored the game’s first goal before Kenny Sansom scored a rare goal to level; indeed, it was the former Arsenal man’s first league goal in five years, but Paul Allen scored the game’s winner on 69 minutes.

Tottenham repeated the feat the following season, this time; Steve Sedgley scored the only goal of the game.

In April 2004, it was Everton who ran out winners, with David Unsworth opening the scoring before Gary Naismith and Joseph Yobo gave the Toffees a 3-0 half-time lead, with Stephen Carr pulling a goal back on 75 minutes only to be sent off two minutes later.

Tottenham pulled off a stunning win at Goodison Park in September 2017, with Harry Kane scoring twice and Christian Eriksen scoring the other in a comfortable 3-0 win, and it would be fair to say that, on the whole, the North London side has a good record on the road against Everton.

Further examples of this include a massive 6-2 win they managed in December 2018. On this occasion, it was another former Arsenal man who opened the scoring, winger Theo Walcott, only for Heung-Min Son, Dele Alli, Harry Kane, and Christian Eriksen to make it 4-1 within a devastating 20-minute spell.

Gyfli Sigurdsson pulled a goal back before Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane scored their respective second goals to complete the rout.

In February 2021, the FA Cup clash between these two proved to be a memorable encounter, with Davison Sanchez putting the away side ahead after four minutes before Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison, and Gylfi Sigurdsson to make it 3-1 before Erik Lamela scored to make it 3-2 at the break.

Sanchez scored a second to make it 3-3, but Richarlison put the home side ahead again before Harry Kane took the game to extra time with Tottenham’s fourth. Bernard scored the winner in the 97th minute to complete a 5-4 win for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
