Everton vs Chelsea Head to Head

The first time Chelsea traveled to Merseyside to face Everton came way back in 1908, and on that occasion, they returned down south with a win, and on the whole, the Blues have a good record on their travels.

Indeed, even in Everton’s triumphant 1984/85 title-winning campaign, Chelsea were victorious. John Neal’s side won 4-3 on that occasion, with Gordon Davies scoring a hat-trick and Colin Pates grabbing the other, while Howard Kendall’s side responded with two from Graeme Sharp and one from Paul Bracewell.

In December 2006, Mikel Arteta put Everton ahead, only for Tim Howard to score an own goal on 49 minutes. Joseph Yobo put the home side back in front before Frank Lampard leveled with ten minutes left. The 3-2 winner came courtesy of a bullet from Didier Drogba with three minutes left on the clock, a goal that is still fondly remembered by Chelsea fans.

February 2010 saw a rare Everton win, with Louis Saha scoring twice after Florent Malouda had put Chelsea ahead.

In the 2014/15 season, when Jose Mourinho led Chelsea to another Premier League title in his second spell in charge of the club, the Portuguese boss saw his side steamroller the opposition.

Diego Costa scored after a minute, and Branislav Ivanovic made it 2-0 after just three minutes. Kevin Mirallas cut the deficit just before the break, but Seamus Coleman then scored an own goal which made it 3-1 to Chelsea before Steven Naismith scored Everton’s second.

Nemanja Matic made it 4-2 before Samuel Eto’o cut the gap again, only for Ramires to make it 5-3, and Diego Costa scored a sixth to blow away the hosts.

In August 2022, a Jorginho penalty gave Chelsea a 1-0 win in a season that fans of both clubs will probably sooner forget.
