The Toffees and the Magpies first met back in 1898, just 10 years after the Football League was founded. Their very first clash came at Goodison Park and it ended 3-0 in favour of the home team. Since then, Everton and Newcastle Utd have shared a pitch more than 180 times.

With such a lengthy history, it comes as no surprise that both Everton and Newcastle have been represented by a fair share of mutual players over the years.

•Peter Beardsley, the former England striker, transferred from Everton to Newcastle in 1993.

As mentioned, these teams have met more than 180 times and there has been no shortage of drama and entertainment over the years. In 2013, they played out a five-goal thriller at Goodison Park, which ended 3-2 in favour of the hosts, with goals from Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley.

When this fixture was contested towards the end of the 2022/23 Premier League season, Newcastle ran out 4-1 winners with Callum Wilson twice finding the back of the net.

Their first-ever clash in the FA Cup came in the 1906 Final. A single goal separated the sides as Everton celebrated its maiden success in this competition.
