Tottenham vs A.F.C. Bournemouth History

Meetings between these two are few and far between, but a number of players and managers do connect Tottenham and A.F.C. Bournemouth.

Harry Redknapp spent two spells as a player at Dean Court, now known as the Vitality Stadium, and also managed the team from 1983 to 1992. He then spent four years in charge at White Hart Lane between 2008 and 2012.

Indeed during that spell, he made good use of England international forward Jermain Defore, who had previously had a hugely successful loan spell on the south coast. The lively striker played a total of 362 appearances for Tottenham, scoring 143 times. In his two spells at Bournemouth, the first of which was in 2000-01 and the second sometime later between 2017 and 2019, he managed 23 goals in 65 games.

Tottenham vs A.F.C. Bournemouth Head to Head

When Tottenham hosted Bournemouth in March 2016, it was the first time the two teams had played each other since February 1957.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, in Bournemouth’s first Premier League campaign, they were pretty much annihilated by their rivals. At home, they were thumped 5-1, and at White Hart Lane, two goals from Harry Kane and a third from Christian Eriksen saw Tottenham secure a 3-0 victory.

The following season the scoreline was 4-0, Harry Kane again among the goals alongside Mousa Dembele, Heung-Min Son, and Vincent Janssen but in October 2017, the game was a lot tighter with Christian Eriksen settling the game with the only goal.

In December 2018 and November 2019, home wins came via 5-0 and 3-2 score lines, but in April 2023, Gary O’Neill’s side finally secured an away victory and did so in an exciting fashion.

O’Neill had all but secured another Premier League season but was still keen to give his team’s loyal traveling fans something to celebrate. However, Heung-Min Son opened the scoring after 14 minutes, but Matias Vina and Dominic Solanke saw Bournemouth get back in front after 51 minutes.

A win looked on the cards until loaned-in Dutch international Arnaut Danjuma came off the bench to equalize for Tottenham after 88 minutes, but Bournemouth had the last laugh when their own super sub, Dango Ouattara, scored a dramatic winner in injury time to send the away fans ecstatic.
