The first meeting between these teams came in the Third Round of the FA Cup in 1927. Following a stalemate at Dean Court, Liverpool secured a 4-1 victory at Anfield.

In 2014, Bournemouth and Liverpool shared a pitch for only the fifth time. The latter emerged victorious in this FA Cup Fourth Round tie, but were knocked out the following round by eventual Cup winners Arsenal.

The Reds beat Bournemouth again later that year, in the fifth round of the League Cup. Once more, Liverpool lost out to the eventual champions as they were eliminated by Chelsea in the semi-finals.

• After rising through the Bournemouth Academy, Jamie Redknapp signed for Liverpool in 1991. • Dominic Solanke moved to Liverpool on a free transfer from Chelsea in 2017. Two years later, the striker was sold to Bournemouth for a fee of £19m.

• Nathaniel Clyne and Wales winger Harry Wilson joined the Cherries, on loan from Liverpool, in 2019.

Bournemouth had to wait another seven years to beat the Reds again. In the 2022/23 season, Philip Billing scored the decisive goal in a narrow 1-0 win at Vitality Stadium.

Liverpool netted seven goals in this fixture on the south coast, across back-to-back seasons. Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick in a 4-0 triumph at Bournemouth in December 2018, and he was on the scoresheet again 12 months later as the Merseysiders ran out 3-0 winners.
