AFC Bournemouth vs Everton FC History

There isn’t too much history between these two teams, with only three clashes between them prior to 2015.

Bournemouth and Everton FC shared a pitch for the first time in 1937. It was a Third Round tie in the FA Cup, in which the Merseysiders claimed a 5-0 win.

Nearly half a century passed by before the following meeting of the Cherries and the Toffees. They contested a two-legged tie in the second round of the League Cup in 1985; Gary Lineker scored at Goodison Park and then at Dean Court as Everton won 5-2 on aggregate.

This was followed by another three decades during which these teams didn’t cross paths. Only in 2015 did Bournemouth and Everton share a league fixture for the first time.

In 2023, Everton had gone 28 years without winning a trophy. Meanwhile, Bournemouth had yet to celebrate a major honour for the first time.

Especially since Bournemouth’s ascension up the English football pyramid, there have been a number of players who have played for both these teams.

• Sylvain Distin spent six years at Everton and then signed for Bournemouth ahead of the 2015/16 season, after which he brought an end to his playing career.

• Asmir Begović joined Bournemouth in 2017, from Chelsea, in a deal worth £10m. The goalkeeper later moved to Everton on a free transfer.

• Josh King was a Bournemouth player for seven years and made more than 175 appearances for the Cherries. The Norway striker spent the second half of the 2020/21 season at Everton, having completed a £5m move away from the south coast.

• Arnaut Danjuma made a name for himself during a two-year spell at Bournemouth, which earned him a transfer to Villarreal valued at £20m. The Netherlands winger switched to Everton on loan at the start of the 2023/24 season.

AFC Bournemouth vs Everton FC Head-to-Head

In 2015/16, after Bournemouth had earned promotion from the EFL Championship, they faced Everton in a league meeting for the first time ever.

This fixture produced a 3-3 draw, with four of those goals coming after the 80th minute. Junior Stanislas scored two late goals for the Cherries to rescue a point after Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley had each netted for the away side.

That same season saw this fixture played in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup; Lukaku and Barkley each appeared on the scoresheet in a 2-0 victory for Everton. The Merseyside outfit reached the semi-finals before crashing out to eventual champions Manchester United.

When the Toffees visited Dean Court in 2019, Callum Wilson was amongst the scorers as Bournemouth recorded victory by three goals to one.

The Cherries won 3-0 in this fixture during the 2022/23 campaign, at which point Everton had yet to win at the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League.
