The year was 1925 when these teams met on the pitch for the first time. They would meet several times more until the 1960s, though mostly in the lower divisions of the Football League.

Up until the end of the 2022/23 season, neither Palace nor Bournemouth had celebrated winning a major trophy. The Eagles finished runners-up of the FA Cup, losing at Wembley in the 1990 and 2016 finals.
