When Portugal finally clinched their first-ever UEFA European Championship title and their first major tournament win of any kind in 2016, they erased (to an extent) the memory of many heartaches in recent years.

A side packed full of talents, including Pavel Nedved, Patrik Berger, and Karel Poborsky, marched all the way to the final, only to lose to Germany, with striker Oliver Bierhof scoring twice, including netting a golden goal winner at Wembley.
