Portugal vs Belgium UEFA Euros Tournament Record
Portugal are one of the most consistent performers when it comes to UEFA European Championship finals performances. Up until 2023, Seleção das Quinas have qualified for eight finals tournaments, and on seven occasions, they’ve reached at least the Quarter-Finals and have never exited at the group stage.
Securing their maiden tournament win has been, however, a hard-fought road. In 1984, they reached the Semi-Finals, only to lose to an extra-time goal against eventual winners France, and it was the same opposition that eliminated them in the Semi-Finals in 2000.
In 2004, when they hosted the tournament, Portugal were expected to beat Greece in the final but were defeated in Lisbon, much to the consternation of their adoring public.

It took an extra time belter from Eder after Cristiano Ronaldo had been stretchered off to see Portugal defeat France in Paris to secure their first-ever major title.
Belgium have similarly impressed on the occasions they’ve made it to the finals of the tournament.
In 1972 they finished in third place, and eight years later, they lost the Euro 1980 final against West Germany in Rome. Group stage exits followed in 1984 and 2000 before they got back on track in more recent editions of the competition.
In 2016 they recovered from a group stage loss to Italy to then defeat the Republic of Ireland and Sweden to set up a Round of 16 clash with Hungary, which they duly won with ease 4-0 before surprisingly losing to Wales in the Quarter-Final.
Four years later, they once again reached the last eight, this time losing to eventual winners Italy in Munich.

These two nations have only met on one occasion in the finals of a UEFA European Championship tournament, and that came in the delayed Euro 2020 finals.
There, Belgium and Portugal faced off in the Round of 16 in Seville. It took a goal from Thorgan Hazard to secure a win for Roberto Martinez’s side, with the Red Devils eliminated in the very next round by Italy.
