Portugal have a very strong record when it comes to UEFA European Championship finals; indeed, in every tournament they’ve successfully qualified for, they’ve made it through to the knockout phase.

In 2000, as the Former Republic of Yugoslavia, they did well to qualify from their group behind a Spain side that had somehow defeated them 4-3 in a wildly exciting opening phase game.
They were then undone by the Netherlands in the quarter finals with Patrick Kluivert scoring a hat-trick in a thumping 6-1 win, with Marc Overmars also netting twice.

Portugal and Serbia have never met in a UEFA European Championship finals match, but as of 2023, they have faced each other in six qualifying matches.
Of those, Portugal have won three and drawn the others, with Serbia still to defeat them in the competition.
