Belgium vs Slovakia UEFA Euros Tournament Record
Belgium have often flattered to deceive in the UEFA European Championship, and they have definitely proven more effective when competing in the FIFA World Cup.
De Rode Duivels first qualified for the finals in 1972, doing so by virtue of being hosts; there, they finished third, albeit out of four teams, beating Hungary in the third-place playoff in Liege.
Eight years later, in Italy, they finished top of a group that included Spain, Italy, and England before losing narrowly to West Germany in the final in Rome. 1984 saw a group stage elimination in France, followed by three failed qualification attempts.
Euro 2000 was co-hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands, but once again, another group stage exit.
There then followed a very prolonged period of failure, with Belgium failing to come close to getting to the finals of Euro 2004, Euro 2008, and Euro 2012.
That run came to an end in 2016 when national team coach Marc Wilmots took Belgium to the finals in France. They got through the group stage and defeated Hungary in the Round of 16 and were set to make a real impact before suffering a shock loss to Wales in the Quarter-Finals.
At Euro 2020, another Quarter-Final exit occurred, albeit this one coming after a strong run of form was ended by a narrow loss to eventual winners Italy.
Slovakia first attempted to qualify for the UEFA European Championships in 1996, having previously been part of the former Czechoslovakia. It took quite a while for Sokoli to make the grade, doing so finally in 2016.
At the finals in France, Jan Kozak’s side won many admirers. They lost their first game to Wales but bounced back to beat Russia in Lille. They then took on England, needing to get something from the clash in Saint-Etienne, and held on for a goalless draw to secure passage to the knockout phase.
Slovakia’s run came to an end against Germany, with goals from Jerome Boateng, Mario Gomez, and Julian Draxler completing an easy 3-0 win in the Round of 16.
They returned to the finals for the next edition of the competition and began by beating Poland 2-1 in Saint-Petersburg. Unfortunately, defeats to Sweden and Spain saw them knocked out.

These two sides, as of 2023, have never met in a competitive international fixture. Their last clash came in February 2013, with Belgium coming out on top thanks to goals from Eden Hazard and Dries Mertens in a 2-1 win in Bruges.
