Belgium vs Slovenia UEFA Euros Tournament Record
Belgium have had quite an up-and-down time of it in the UEFA European Championships over the years. They first qualified for the finals of the tournament in 1972 and finished in third place, albeit out of four teams.
Eight years later, at Euro 80, they did well to top a group that also included Italy, England, and Spain and then took on West Germany in the final, where they lost 2-1 in Rome, with Horst Hrubesch scoring twice for the victors.
At Euro 84, they failed to get out of their group and then missed out on the finals in 1988, 1992, and 1996 before co-hosting the 2000 finals with the Netherlands.
Even though they were on home soil, Belgiumfailed to find passage to the knockout phase and then experienced another poor period of form. They performed poorly in the qualification process and, therefore, failed to make the finals of Euro 2004, Euro 2008 and Euro 2012.
Thankfully, under coach Marc Wilmots, things improved significantly. At Euro 2016, wins over the Republic of Ireland and Sweden saw Belgium finish in second place to secure a spot in the last 16. There, they faced Hungary and romped to a 4-0 win before surprisingly losing their Quarter-Final with Wales in Lille.
At Euro 2020, this time under Roberto Martinez, Belgium once again battled their way to the Quarter-Finals; on this occasion, it was eventual winners Italy who knocked them out, with Roberto Mancini’s side winning 2-1 in Munich.
Slovenia have only once qualified for the finals of the UEFA European Championships, and that was at Euro 2000. At those finals, they performed fairly well, securing draws with both the Former Republic of Yugoslavia and Norway but losing to Spain, and therefore failed to progress any further in the competition.

Belgium and Slovenia have thus far never met in competitive action, with their only two previous meetings coming in international friendlies.
In February 2009, two goals from former Manchester City defender Daniel Van Buyten gave Belgium a 2-0 win in Brussels, with the other meeting, in August 2011, ending in a goalless draw in Slovenia.
