Belgium’s form in the UEFA European Championship has been something of a hit-and-miss story. With periods of success at both ends, with a very poor period for much of the competition’s history.

In 1972, Belgium qualified for their first finals tournament but were beaten in the Semi-Finals of the four-team tournament, which they also hosted, with West Germany forward Gerd Muller scoring twice in a 2-1 win.

Marc Wilmot's side performed well to get through their group and past Hungary in the Round of 16 before they stumbled in the Quarter-Finals, seeing a lead vanish during a surprise loss to Wales.
