These teams first met in 1969, relatively recent in the history of English league football. Wolves came out on top, by three goals to two, in the third round of the English League Cup.

A decade later, Wolves and Brighton shared a pitch for a second time. Once again a Third Round tie, only this time it was in the FA Cup. The result and scoreline were identical to 10 years prior and Wolves went on to reach the semi-finals that year.

The men in orange and black fell to eventual winners Arsenal, victors of Manchester United in the final at Wembley.
