When these teams first shared a pitch back in 1910, it was in the Second Round of the FA Cup. Played at Molineux, West Ham ran out 5-1 winners on the day.

A decade later the teams contested a league fixture for the first time, in the old Second Division.

Wolves and West Ham went more than 35 years without crossing paths, until 1958 when they met in the First Division for the first time.

Wolves were the reigning champions of England at the time, during a period when the West Midlands club endured its most successful chapter with multiple league titles and a fourth FA Cup crown.

The teams continued to meet frequently for much of the 60s and 70s, and less so in the 80s. When the Football League reformatted in 1992, Wolves and the Hammers were both playing in the second tier which had then become known as the new First Division.

In more recent times, West Ham won the UEFA Conference League in 2023, at which point Wolves hadn’t celebrated a major honour for 43 years.

• Paul Ince was just 14 when he signed for West Ham and he made his senior debut for the club four years later. Following spells with Manchester United, Inter Milan and Liverpool, Ince moved to Wolves in 2002.

• Robbie Keane joined the Wolves Academy in 1996 before making his professional debut the following year. Later in his illustrious career, in 2011, the Republic of Ireland icon had a spell on loan at West Ham from Tottenham.

• Carlton Cole rose through the Chelsea Academy and was loaned to Wolves in 2002. The striker later signed for West Ham and went on to make almost 300 appearances across a seven-year stay with the Hammers, in addition to earning seven caps for England.

• After featuring 175 times for Wolves, Matt Jarvis moved to West Ham in 2012. The deal was reportedly worth an initial £7,5m.

• Craig Dawson transferred in the opposite direction in 2023, as Wolves purchased the defender for a fee in the region of £3,5m.
