Germany and Hungary UEFA Euros Tournament Record
Germany possesses a mightily impressive record in the UEFA European Championships. Their achievement of winning the competition on three separate occasions is matched only by Spain. Germany have also made more final appearances than any other country, appearing in the showpiece finale six times.
Their first victory came in 1972, when Gerd Muller scored a brace in the final against the Soviet Union 3-0. The match ended 3-0 in Germany’s favour. Eight years later, Horst Hrubesch emulated Muller's goal-scoring heroics in the Euro 1980 final by scoring twice in Germany's 2-1 win over Belgium.

Germany and Hungary met for the first time at a UEFA European Championship at Euro 2020. The two teams were drawn together in a difficult group alongside Portugal and France. Hungary took the lead twice against Die Mannschaft but could only manage a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
That match in 2021 was their first competitive meeting since the 1954 FIFA World Cup. Hungary beat West Germany 8-3 in the group stage and the two teams met again in the showpiece final. Ferenc Puskás and his Hungarian teammates were the favourites, but Germany came from 2-0 down to win the historic match 3-2.
