Germany has an excellent record in the UEFA European Championships. Only Spain have matched their achievement of winning the tournament three times. They’ve also reached the final more times than any other nation, appearing in the showpiece match on six occasions.

Until Euro 2016, Germany and France had never met in a European Championship match. They faced off in the semi-final at the Stade de Marseille and Antoine Griezmann was the star of the show. The French forward bagged a double to send the tournament hosts into the final.
They met again at Euro 2020 after being drawn in a group of death alongside Portugal and Hungary. France ran out 1-0 winners against Germany, thanks to an unfortunate Mats Hummels own goal.
The greatest ever meeting between these two nations undoubtedly came in the semi-finals of the 1982 World Cup. Germany progressed to the final on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw, in a match that is best remembered for Harald Schumacher’s “tackle” on Patrick Battiston.
