These are two of England’s oldest football clubs and the first time they shared a pitch was back in 1893.

Not long ago these teams were involved in an enthralling six-goal affair at Villa Park, in what was a fixture of great importance at the top end of the Championship table in 2018/19. Billy Sharp’s hat-trick had given the Blades a three-goal advantage but Tyrone Mings, Tammy Abraham and Andre Green all scored after the 80th minute to rescue a point for the home side. Ultimately, both clubs achieved promotion that season.
Going back to 2007, Martin O’Neill’s side swept away the Blades, 3-0, with Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Young on the scoresheet. Sheffield Utd were famously relegated from the Premiership that year, succumbing to the drop by virtue of a single goal differential to Wigan Athletic.
Going even further into history, these teams contested a semi-final tie in the 1901 FA Cup which required a replay following a 2-2 draw at The City Ground. The Blades would go on to progress but they lost to Tottenham Hotspur, 1-3, in the final replay.
