Burnley vs Brentford History

The first time these clubs shared a pitch was in 1933, in the old Second Division. Burnley were triumphant at Turf Moor after Brentford had won its home fixture earlier in the season.

In 1949, the teams met in the FA Cup. Brentford were the victors of this Fifth Round tie, but would go on to be defeated by eventual runners-up Leicester City.

Of the two clubs, Burnley are comfortably the more historic, being a founder member of the Football League back in 1888. The Clarets were winners of the First Division in 1921 and 1960, and captured a maiden FA Cup title in 1914. On the other hand, until the end of the 2022/23 season, Brentford had yet to win a major trophy.

To date there have been fewer than 40 meetings between Burnley and Brentford, though the clubs have been represented by a few mutual players.

These teams met in the 1960/61 League Cup. Burnley, champions of England at the time, duly won this third round tie.

In the 2003 FA Cup, the Clarets and the Bees met in the Fourth Round; Burnley won 3-0 at Griffin Park.

After achieving promotion to the Premier League in 2021, Brentford took part in the English top flight for the first time since 1947.

The 2021/22 season saw these teams meet in the top division for the first time and they both won their home fixture. Chris Wood and Maxwel Cornet found the net in a 3-1 win for Burnley at Turf Moor.
